Sport Management adds new master’s degree
The Department of Sport Management is beginning a new graduate program in the Spring 2010 semester. The 36-credit-hour Master of Science program comprises a set of core courses, and students will be able to select one of two specializations: Sport Administration or Outdoor Recreation Management.
“The Sport Management department believes that the master’s program will provide unique offerings, one in which students can train specifically to work with Ultimate LU [campus recreation, intramural and club sports, etc.] and with the athletic department on campus,” said Sport Management Department Chair Vicky Martin. “There will be an integration of practical management learning experiences blending effectively with classroom learning.”
The program design began three years ago, Martin said, and received SACS (Southern Association of Colleges and Schools) approval to officially begin the program this spring.
Receiving a Sport Management master’s degree could lead to careers including collegiate athletic administration, resort management and front office positions with professional teams.
