New faculty members attend orientation

New Liberty University faculty members with the university's provost and vice provost.

Liberty University welcomed 64 new faculty to its ranks during orientation on Wednesday, Aug. 6. They spent the day learning more about Liberty’s culture and mission while being taught university policies and procedures.

Dr. Ronald Godwin, provost, emboldened them to become co-laborers in Liberty’s mission of Training Champions for Christ.

He emphasized Liberty’s dedication to being a teaching university, focusing on more than just forming students to become graduates with diplomas, but rather equipping individuals with the skills they need to succeed in the workplace.

This means Liberty “invests to the greatest degree in improving the learning outcomes of students,” Godwin said.

“I believe in honoring those people who most effectively, skillfully, and productively invest themselves in the lives of students. I believe that is biblical.”

He explained that through Liberty’s College of General Studies and Center for Teaching Excellence, students and teachers, respectively, are provided with resources and training to equip them with core competencies and improve their skill sets.

The university annually recognizes some of the most outstanding and dedicated teachers at graduation with the President’s Awards for Excellence in Teaching.

“We strive to continue to find new ways to recognize those faculty who take their greatest pride in the learning outcomes they produce in the students that God has placed in front of them,” Godwin said.
