Liberty University’s marketing video teams reaped five awards in the 2014 Telly Awards, which recognizes excellence in television and online video production.

Liberty earned a silver award, the highest honor, for its Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) broadcast of the Flames Baseball home game against Virginia Tech on April 14. Liberty also received bronze awards for four submissions: a series of profiles highlighting notable alumni and supporters such as Fox News reporter Shannon Bream, Grammy Award winner TobyMac, and actor/producer Kirk Cameron; a television commercial for Flames Football; a documentary explaining Liberty’s distinctive presence in higher education; and a documentary about how Liberty is impacting the world through its Center for Global Engagement. The Telly Awards was founded in 1978 and honors the best in film and video production, web commercials, videos, films, and local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs.

“These awards speak to the caliber of our programming here at Liberty University,” said Ron Kennedy, senior vice president for Marketing. “Our video and broadcast teams are committed to displaying excellence in everything they do, and their creativity and hard work are being noticed. With the leadership of Caleb Atkins they continue to shine and I am proud of the work they are doing to represent Liberty.”

LFSN is a professional network that reaches more than 85 million homes across the U.S. and other areas of the world. Members of the LFSN broadcast team also function as mentors to students who are studying in the field. Students work alongside industry veterans in a variety of productions, including live coverage of Liberty Athletics events and “Game On,” a daily sports talk show.

“Of greatest importance is the number of opportunities we provide our School of Communication & Creative Arts students to enhance their education in real-world environments,” said Dr. Norman Mintle, dean of Liberty’s School of Communication & Creative Arts. “There is no other university that can match our experiential learning style.”
