Liberty University’s Class of 2014 gathered together one last time before graduation on Saturday, May 3, at Camp Hydaway on nearby Liberty Mountain for the seventh annual Senior Picnic. The event was organized by Liberty’s Student Activities team.
Seniors celebrated their accomplishments and enjoyed outdoor activities such as canoeing, kayaking, ATV riding, zip-lining, carnival games, and beach volleyball as well as a complimentary dinner and free T-shirts. They also had the opportunity to talk to and take photos with President Jerry Falwell and his wife, Becki.
“The senior picnic helps to give seniors one last time to relax, hang out, and enjoy one another’s company before they go their separate ways,” said Christopher Misiano, senior director of campus recreation. “Student Activities has the privilege of being a part of their college experience one more time through this day filled with rides, games, prizes, and food.”
Georgianna Estell enjoyed the opportunity to hang out with her college friends before Commencement.
“I think it’s great that our school does something to show their appreciation for our hard work and dedication to our academics,” Estell said. “The picnic was as much fun as I expected it to be, and it was a fantastic opportunity to catch up with friends that I haven’t seen much this semester.”
Misiano said the Senior Picnic is the culmination of hundreds of opportunities for students to connect with each other.
“Student Activities strives to enhance the lives of students throughout their time at Liberty by providing a variety of environments where they can connect with one another and form friendships,” Misiano said. “From movies to concerts to outdoor recreation opportunities, there are hundreds of ways for students with similar interests to get involved and have a great time.”
