School of Religion hosts annual career fair

Liberty religion students attend a career fair. The Liberty University School of Religion hosted its annual career fair in the Reber-Thomas Dining Hall atrium on Tuesday, Nov. 5, connecting religion students with some of the largest churches from all across America.

According to Chris Hulshof, assistant dean in the School of Religion, the career fair allows students the opportunity to interact with potential employers and discover where and how God may be moving in their life.

“This provides students the opportunity to seek out employers who are genuinely interested in not only who they are, but also the specific skill set that their schooling has equipped them with,” Hulshof said. “It is exciting for our students to see firsthand that some of the major churches and para-church ministries in America are seeking out School of Religion students and graduates.”

Daniel Kelly, senior youth ministry major, attended the fair because he is looking for an internship or job opportunity after graduation in May.

“There are 30 churches here looking to give religion students jobs after we graduate. It’s great that Liberty gives us this opportunity to connect with them in such a unique way,” Kelly said.

Church leaders meet with Liberty students during a career fair. One church represented was Second Baptist located in Houston, Texas, a megachurch with a membership of over 63,000 and five campus locations.

Eric Hystead, associate pastor at Second Baptist, said the church has been coming to Liberty for a few years because they have had success in hiring students before.

“Every Liberty student that we have hired in the past has had a great work ethic. They do not complain and are always willing to work hard. They love God, and they love people, and that is why we keep coming back to these fairs looking for more of them to hire,” Hystead said.

Alumnus Victor Stanley (’85), a senior pastor at Calvary Baptist Church in Woodbridge, Va., was looking to recruit a Liberty student to lead worship at his church.

“As a Liberty alumnus, I have a lot of confidence that we will find a student here today to fill the specific position we have open in our church,” Stanley said.
