Worship program receives ‘Best of the Best’ honors

The Liberty University Center for Music & Worship has once again been recognized as one of the top worship programs in the country. This month, Worship Leader Magazine listed Liberty’s program among the “Best of the Best in Education” for the third-straight year in its annual “Best of the Best” issue. Liberty also earned the Reader’s Choice award for the No. 1 worship program in higher education for the second year in a row.

The magazine surveys worship leaders and media specialists around the world for its “best of” issue, featuring top picks in music, software, books, and other worship resources. The publication has more than 200,000 subscribers.

“Worship Leader is a premier trade magazine for those in the worship and praise industry,” said Dr. Vernon Whaley, dean of the Liberty University School of Music. “We are so excited to see that the music and worship industry recognizes the quality and depth of training afforded students in our school.”

Whaley credits Dr. Lavon Gray, associate dean of the center, and his team for “a job well done.”

The Center for Music & Worship started in 2005 and at the time was one of only five worship programs nationwide. Today there are nearly 100 worship programs at colleges and universities across the country and Liberty’s is the largest and most comprehensive in the world.

Liberty’s School of Music launched last fall, encompassing all of Liberty’s music programs. It is now the nation’s seventh-largest music school and has two distinct departments. The Center for Music & Worship equips highly skilled musicians to serve as worship practitioners and Christian music industry specialists within the evangelical community.  The Center for Music & the Performing Arts (formerly Music and Humanities) focuses on training and equipping passionate musicians as skilled performers and music education specialists.

The School of Music continues to expand its already robust program offerings to meet market demand. Read more about these new programs in the Fall 2013 issue of the Liberty Journal.

Worship Leader is available by subscription, at newsstands, and for downloadable purchase online.
