On a spiritual gifts test, Dave Young’s highest scores are for primary leadership, administration and faith. “I guess I am a builder by nature. I like to build programs,” said Young. As Dean of Liberty University’s newly formed School of Aeronautics, that’s exactly what Young is doing.

Liberty’s throng of freshmen assembled at Williams Stadium Thursday evening for the inaugural Chancellor’s Cookout. Hosted by LU’s Athletics Department and the Center for Academic Support and Advising Services (CASAS), the new university tradition introduced incoming students to a multitude of stadium cheers, igniting school spirit days before the start of the 2008-09 academic year.

Liberty Home Bible Institute, the world’s largest correspondence diploma program on the Bible, has announced its 100,000th student. On Aug. 11, Jeremy Miller of Jefferson, N.C., joined thousands of other students from 50 states and 38 countries who have been enrolled in the 32-year-old certificate program of Liberty University.

Members of The Spirit of the Mountain Marching Band are in Band Camp this week, preparing for the upcoming football season, which kicks off Aug. 30 at Williams Stadium. The band is practicing for its halftime show, "DIRECTOR'S CUT: Music from the Movies," an original marching show with songs from favorite cinematic adventures and movie scores, including Batman, Top Gun, James Bond, Mission Impossible, and others.

Approximately 3,700 Liberty University freshmen packed the Vines Center for their first convocation, Thursday. The administration welcomed Liberty’s largest incoming class as they gathered together for a time of praise and worship.

The Student Activities Office has announced that Michael Tait, a popular Christian singer and LU alumnus, will perform at this year’s Homecoming on Oct. 25. Tait, along with his band by the same name, will do a 15-minute halftime show and a 45-minute concert after the game.

Liberty University employees hang ‘Red Hot’ banners on the campus Wednesday afternoon. The new Red Hot spirit initiative, supported by the school’s Alumni Association, will include Red Hot-themed T-shirts and gear for fans at Flames sporting events. In addition to Red Hot flags decorating university grounds, LU Flames logos will be painted on campus roads.

This year’s Homecoming event, themed “Come Home to Liberty,” has been expanded to include a full weekend of activities for Liberty alumni, Oct. 23-25. The weekend will allow alumni to reconnect through fellowship and activities that help them recall the special times they had at LU.

For more than 15 years, Dr. Ronald Godwin has served Liberty University, working directly for the Chancellor via many of the university's affiliated ministries. Most recently he has served as Liberty's Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. On July 1, he was officially named Vice Chancellor.
