Zondervan’s Bible Across America bus rolled onto Liberty University’s campus Tuesday morning to continue the mission of completing a handwritten Bible for the 30th anniversary of the leading Bible publisher’s New International Version.

From the time she was a young lady, Macel Falwell, wife of the late Dr. Jerry Falwell, had two dreams in life related to her talents: to play the piano in front of an audience and for people to view her artwork. The first dream was fulfilled as she served for many years as pianist alongside her husband at Thomas Road Baptist Church.

Dr. Johnny Hunt said a prophetic message was on his heart at Monday’s convocation — a sermon based on having the knowledge, understanding and wisdom rooted in Psalms 119:33-37. An excerpt of the verses says: “Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end (33).

With the recent attention from Liberty’s campus-wide voter registration drive, it was fitting for Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. to call on Mat Staver, Dean of Liberty University School of Law, to speak on “Voting Christian Principles” at Friday’s convocation.

This year’s Homecoming, with the theme “Come Home to Liberty,” is being expanded to include an Alumni Weekend full of activities. Alumni Relations, Athletics, Marketing and the Career Center, have been planning events to help alumni reconnect with old friends and the campus where they spent some special — and perhaps the most memorable — years of their lives.

In a time of uncertainty, students heard a message during Wednesday’s convocation that spoke of the one thing that remains certain throughout life’s struggles — God’s kingdom. The Rev. Samuel Rodriguez Jr., president of the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, challenged students to overcome life’s obstacles by holding onto the dreams God has for them.

As of Monday’s 4 p.m. registration deadline, LU Commuter Affairs officials had collected and submitted 4,200 forms to the Lynchburg, Va., city registrar.

Fresh off fall break, students gathered in the Vines Center for Monday’s convocation to hear the words of Lon Solomon, pastor of McLean Bible Church in Northern Virginia and a graduate of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary. He addressed the negative view the average American holds concerning the evangelical church and pointed to a lack of Bible preaching from evangelical pastors in recent decades as a reason for this perception.

Steel beams were put into place this week for the framework of Liberty University’s new Barnes & Noble campus bookstore, located on Main Campus across from the entrance to Williams Stadium. Groundwork on the 20,000 square-foot facility started in May. It will nearly double the size of the current bookstore in Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center.
