As Christmas quickly approaches, students are receiving a special gift during finals week from Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife, Becki. Free bags of kettle corn are being distributed this week outside the Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center.

Anticipation continues to build as crews are diligently grading atop Liberty University's mountain property in preparation for the new year-round ski slope. Slated to open in March, the Liberty Mountain Snowflex Center will be the first artificial incline in the U.S. composed of Snowflex, a multi-layer synthetic material designed to simulate real snow.

A few familiar faces are returning to Liberty University’s Vines Center for Winterfest 2008, Dec. 30-Jan. 1. The ever-popular punk rock sensation Hawk Nelson will take the stage along with Sanctus Real and Skillet, helping to ring in the New Year during the festival’s first night session.

Beyond the enormous landmasses comprising the earth’s seven continents, there lies an enchanting world ready for exploration — under water. Beginning Jan. 13, 2009, Liberty University students and the general public can enroll in a two-week course that gives them the initial certification needed to scuba dive in Earth’s most beautiful oceanic caverns.

One Michigan family had to buy a larger dinner table this Thanksgiving, due to the generosity of Liberty University students. The Wolfes (mother Kathy, father Randy, and children Kristin, Brad, and Bonny) travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on Nov. 8 to complete the adoption of three teenage Ethiopian siblings.

The Studio Creative Community, an LU art club, hosted a "Style Your Sole" event Monday at the DeMoss courtyard. Student artists were on hand to help decorate shoes that were pre-ordered by students. There was also live music, food and coffee donated by local businesses.

Liberty’s annual Fall Communion Service was held Wednesday in the Schilling Center. This year, the interactive, experiential walk-thru service (held during Campus Church in the past) allowed staff and faculty to join students in a memorable worship experience.

The Liberty Center for Church Planting concluded a four-day “Storm the Gates” Church Planting Emphasis Week on Saturday. “Storm the Gates was only Liberty’s second Church Planting Emphasis Week in its history, and it also was a huge success,” said Dr. Dave Earley, director of the Liberty Center for Church Planting at Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary.

Thanks to two recent developments, Financial Aid information just became easier to access and manage. Last month Liberty began partnering with Financial Aid TV, a firm based in San Francisco, Calif., to provide online video counseling for Financial Aid recipients and their parents in a YouTube format.
