The Liberty University Athletics Department has claimed the top athletics honor in the Big South Conference — the Sasser Cup — for the 2012-13 athletics season. This is the sixth year in a row Liberty has been awarded the trophy, given to the member institution with the most successful year.
Liberty Athletics captured 10 conference titles during the 2012-13 season, including major titles in baseball, football, and men’s basketball. Other crowns were earned in men’s cross country, men’s indoor track & field, men’s outdoor track & field, volleyball, women’s basketball, women’s cross country, and women’s outdoor track & field.
The Sasser Cup was announced on Thursday at the Big South Conference’s annual Spring Meetings Awards and Hall of Fame Dinner at The Homestead in Hot Springs, Va.
Liberty has been awarded the Sasser Cup 11 times in the last 16 years, more than any other athletics department in conference history.
