Benjamin “Bear” Yarbrough is this year’s recipient of the David Arthur Demoss Award, given to a graduating senior who has demonstrated a genuine depth of spirituality, enthusiasm, commitment, active involvement in student cross-cultural ministries and a sincere desire to serve the Lord for the purpose of world evangelism.

Liberty University’s Chief of Police Randy Smith spent his last day at the reins Wednesday. On Thursday, retired Virginia State Police Capt. Howard Gregory takes over as the new chief.

The varsity quiz bowl team consisting of Kelly Hamren (captain), Zachary Curtis, Sara Davis-Leonard, Nicholas Orta and Robbie Mullis was crowned champion in January’s Big South Conference Quiz Bowl for its third consecutive tournament victory. Graduate student Jeff Taylor also competes in challenges with the team.

Just hours before he died last year, the Rev. Jerry Falwell had one last affirmation for Ernie Rogers, who heads Liberty University’s aviation school.

Youth Evangelist and author Tony Nolan shared his life testimony with Liberty University students at Monday’s convocation service.
Most recently, Nolan has been the tour pastor for top Christian band Casting Crowns, where he has seen thousands pray to receive Christ during concerts.

The Rev. Matt Holman enlivened Liberty’s last Friday convocation of the semester as he spoke about never “crying uncle” but pressing on and holding onto the hope that a relationship with Jesus Christ can bring.
Holman, lead pastor at Landmark Church in Cincinnati, Ohio, is known for being an animated and witty speaker.

Stephen Strang, founder of Charisma, a leading Christian magazine, visited the Liberty University campus Thursday.
He met with LU Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and discussed the state of the university, its vision and plans for the future.

Liberty University officials on Thursday dedicated the site of a future LU School of Aeronautics training facility at Lynchburg Regional Airport.
Thursday’s ceremony also served as the official kickoff of a $10 million fundraising drive to finance the new 56,000-square-foot building, airplanes and support facilities.

Army Master Sergeant Rodney Whaley, a Liberty University Distance Learning professor, shared his first-time experience in the 2008 Iditarod Trail Dog Sled Race in Alaska at Monday’s convocation service.
Rodney Whaley, of Franklin, Tenn., was the first Tennessean to enter the Iditarod, which was held last month.

Evangelist Jamey Ragle spoke and Christian band Austins Bridge performed at Friday’s convocation service in the Vines Center.
They were all scheduled to be part of the “Shake the Foundation” concert Friday night at Thomas Road Baptist Church, featuring singer and LU alumnus Marc Ivey.

Liberty University students using the library and computer labs in the DeMoss Learning Center have had to change their routes as some stairwells have been blocked due to construction on the third floor.
But these minor inconveniences will be well worth it when the 45,669 square feet of expanded computer lab and study space becomes available in the fall.

Finishing touches are being put on Doc’s Diner, the newest eating establishment on the Liberty University campus.
The diner, which is named after the late Dr. Jerry Falwell, is scheduled to open exclusively to LU students from April 24 to May 8.

Liberty University paid tribute to the victims of the deadly shooting at Virginia Tech one year ago as students dressed in orange and maroon filled the Vines Center for Wednesday’s convocation service.
Campus pastor Johnnie Moore opened up the service reflecting on that tragedy.

LU chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. announced to students Wednesday that his father’s office in the Carter Glass Mansion is open for tours.
“The Mansion,” as students call it, is an historic home in the center of campus where the late Dr. Jerry Falwell Sr. had his office since 1990. The office has been preserved the way it was when Falwell Sr. died May 15, 2007.

Skaggs shared his testimony, saying he eventually came to a point in his career where he realized “that my ministry was not to be a Christian artist, but to be an artist that was Christian, and to go out and take the love of Christ in my heart … to touch as many people for Christ as I can in this lifetime.”
