Vance Pitman, pastor of Hope Baptist Church in Las Vegas, Nev., spoke at Liberty University’s convocation on Friday with a message calling students to help build the kingdom of God in America.
“One day Jesus Christ will return and he is building a kingdom,” Pitman said.

Liberty alumnus Jamie George spoke about humility in answering God’s call to serve others during Wednesday’s convocation.
George, now lead pastor of The Journey Church in Nashville, Tenn., described how God used him as he began his first church. “I don’t know why God chooses to use me, but I’m grateful that he does,” he said.

Dr. John Trent, founder of Strongfamiles.com, spoke during Monday’s convocation, emphasizing the importance of personal strengths. Citing 1 Corinthians 12:14-18, the best-selling author noted the uniqueness of each individual within a group.

Given the opportunity to assist the Rev. Billy Graham with his autobiography, “Just As I Am,” author Jerry Jenkins wanted readers to be uplifted and motivated by the memoir. Through his travels with Graham, he himself became inspired by a man who lived his life sold out for Jesus Christ.

The Bible teaches us that God uses the underdogs of life to accomplish great and mighty things for His glory. One of the greatest examples of this is King David. Speaking to thousands of students during Wednesday’s convocation, Liberty University Campus Pastor Johnnie Moore used David’s account to teach a valuable life lesson.

Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine visited Liberty University during Monday convocation, representing Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama. As co-chairman of the Obama campaign, Kaine shared his views on the candidate, while addressing the economy, abortion and gay rights.

As disagreements about the contents of our nation’s constitution began to swirl in 1787, Benjamin Franklin urged President George Washington and fellow members of the Constitutional Convention to pray before each meeting.
In his address Franklin stated, “I have lived, Sir, a long time, and the longer I live, the more convincing proof I see of this truth that God governs in the affairs of men.”

Brett O’Donnell, former director of debate for Liberty University, visited campus to speak to students during Friday’s convocation. After coaching Liberty’s debaters for 18 years, O’Donnell is now the Communications Strategist for Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain’s campaign.

Liberty University Head Football Coach Danny Rocco took the stage at Friday’s convocation, encouraging students to come out to Saturday’s home contest against the Lafayette Leopards.
“We need everybody in this facility today to be at that game tomorrow,” Rocco told a packed Vines Center.

The city of Lynchburg will hold a brainstorming session on Thursday, Oct. 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Liberty University’s Reber-Thomas Dining Hall to help formulate a bicycle and pedestrian plan for Wards Road. Students and the general public are encouraged to attend and share their thoughts.
