Alumna and former Liberty University Lady Flames Women’s Basketball standout Avery Warley (’12) will have the opportunity to play for a team with a familiar name after signing a contract with the WNBA’s New York Liberty this week.
Warley will become the first former Lady Flame ever to suit up for the Liberty, after spending her rookie season with Phoenix in 2012. She averaged 3.1 ppg and 5.7 rpg after improbably making the Mercury roster as an undrafted free agent.
Warley finished her four years with the Lady Flames as the leading rebounder in program and Big South Conference history, with 1,282 boards. She also finished No. 1 in Liberty history for games played (132), No. 3 for both blocked shots (166) and double-doubles (47) and No. 5 for points (1,453).
