Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine visits campus

Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine spoke on the role of governor Thursday during the Boys State of Virginia program held at Liberty University’s Vines Center.

Virginia Gov. Timothy M. Kaine visited Liberty University on Thursday to address an estimated 800 rising high school seniors at the 67th annual American Legion Boys State of Virginia.

The program, which opened on Sunday and runs through Saturday, teaches young men about state and local politics as they participate in a mock government.

Liberty University has hosted Boys State for 20 years, drawing local and state dignitaries to campus, including Virginia’s Lt. Gov. William Bolling, who spoke on Wednesday.

Several camps for young people are keeping Liberty a hub of activity this summer. More than 30 different camps and conferences are being held on the Liberty University campus during a six-week period, from sports camps such as volleyball and soccer, to academic, including debate, as well as ministry and youth camps.
