Liberty head football coach Turner Gill experienced great success during his collegiate football career at the University of Nebraska. That success as a player and as a member of the Huskers’ coaching staff garnered him widespread fan support from the Nebraska faithful and that support has followed him to his current head coaching role at Liberty.

Nebraska native and current Virginia resident Gordon Bernhardt is one of those loyal supporters. Bernhardt and a few other Nebraska natives made the trip to Lynchburg for Liberty’s football game against Lehigh on Sept. 22 to show their support for Gill. When asked about Gill, Bernhardt commented, “Coach Gill is a man of integrity, character, class, faith and we all love him.”

Bernhardt and his group not only came to show their support for Gill, but they also took the opportunity to reach out to a local boys’ home. Bernhardt provided tickets to the game for at-risk juveniles from Opportunity House in Lynchburg. “We had some extra tickets and we wanted to reach out to some kids from the community and create an incredible experience for them, so we were able to connect with Opportunity House and bring these boys with us,” stated Bernhardt.

The experience for Bernhardt and the entire group was capped off with a special opportunity to meet with Gill after the game. Gill expressed his gratitude for the prayers and support of the group and spent time signing autographs for them.
