Prayer summit unites pastors and ministry leaders

Liberty University is known for its training of “Champions for Christ” — but that doesn’t just refer to students trying to obtain a degree.

The school has long offered opportunities for those already in the field of ministry, whether a pastor, missionary, lay leader or active church member.

Monday was the start of a three-day National Prayer Summit on campus, drawing close to 80 pastors and ministry leaders from around the country.

Daniel Henderson, Assistant Professor of Renewal and Church Leadership at LU, is serving as facilitator, along with Dennis Fuqua, executive director of International Renewal Ministries, and Phil Miglioratti, founder of National Pastors Prayer Network. They will share their own experiences and insights to help equip participants to lead prayer summits and other types of corporate prayer within their own congregations.

The summit was designed for Christian leaders to seek the Lord and His agenda for their lives, families, church and community. It consists of praise and worship time, Scripture reading, and private and public prayer— all in large and small group settings.

“This is the purest form of Christianity I have ever experienced,” said Henderson in his welcoming remarks. “We don’t have any sound system, no celebrity speakers, no special music—we’re just here primarily in the presence of God, ministering to Him, ministering to one another, seeing how He leads us…it’s all very biblical.”

Henderson is Pastor of Renewal at Thomas Road Baptist Church. He is also founder and president of Strategic Renewal (one of the summit’s sponsors) — a Christian organization that offers a wide array of products, seminars, and support services to assist pastors and ministry leaders.
