Liberty students learn about short-term missions opportunities

The new Towns Lecture Hall at the B.R. Lakin School of Religion was filled beyond capacity Monday night as 925 students showed up to learn about the 14 short-term missions campaigns being offered this year by Liberty University’s Center for Global Ministries.Over Christmas, spring, and summer breaks LU students will be on the front lines of the Great Commission in some of the world’s least reached places. Liberty students will distribute Christian literature in the Himalayan and Andes Mountains, work in orphanages in East Asia, float down the Amazon River, and share Christ in war-torn nations like Bosnia and Cambodia.

Campus pastor Johnnie Moore, who led part of the meeting, said missions remains a major focus at Liberty.

“At Liberty, we actually believe we can change the world in our generation, and we do everything in our power to inspire this vision among our students,” he said. “Missions puts feet to faith. It is spiritual growth on steroids.”

Dr. Don Fanning, director of The Center for Global Ministries, spoke on the need for young people in the mission field and for the right reasons. He asked the students if they believed they could be the generation to reach the whole world for Christ.

The short-term trips being offered this year are:

  • Christmas Break: Pre-Christmas, East Asia; Post-Christmas, Cambodia and East Asia
  • Spring Break: Bosnia; High Atlas Mountains, North Africa; South East Asia
  • May: Amazon, Brazil; Andes Mountains, Peru; Central Europe; France/North Africa; New Delhi, India; Nepal; Puebla, Mexico; and Senegal, Africa

Information on these trips can be found at Light Ministries’ website.
