Students present Chancellor Falwell gifts from Mexico

The Falwells will soon add some Latin-American flavor to their home.

Students whose parents are missionaries in Mexico presented several gifts from the country to Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife, Becki, on Friday to show their appreciation for scholarships to attend LU. Among the gifts were a plate from Puebla, a teakwood tray, Oaxaca pottery and a hand-painted coaster set. The sophomore and junior students were Katie Smith, Aaron Johnson, Andrea Flagg, Vasti Ortega, and Emily Boyter.

“As missionaries, our parents don’t necessarily make a lot of money, and when God opens the doors financially for us to go somewhere, that’s where we end up going. We are so grateful to Liberty University for providing for us financially and allowing us to come and get an education at a Christian school,” said Boyter, a 19-year-old who is studying English as a Second Language.

Chancellor Falwell said he deeply appreciated the gifts and that LU has a continued commitment to helping children of missionaries and pastors attend the school.
