Miles McPherson kicks off Spiritual Emphasis Week

Pastor Miles McPherson returned to Liberty University for the second time as the featured speaker for Spiritual Emphasis Week.

McPherson is the senior pastor of the Rock Church in San Diego, Calif., and a former NFL player with the Los Angeles Rams and the San Diego Chargers.

In his opening message in Wednesday’s convocation, he challenged students to assess the vision they have for their life and align it with God’s “ba-boom” vision.

“A vision is a picture of your preferred future,” McPherson said. “You are always going to have obstacles, but God has given you a dream and his power — his ‘ba-boom’ power.”

“Ba-Boom” is a term he used to emphasize the power that Christians have with the Holy Spirit to accomplish God’s will on earth as Jesus describes in Acts 1:8.

McPherson encouraged students to “not settle” for things they can do but to “let go and let God” work in their lives.

McPherson will speak for special services Wednesday and Thursday at 7:30 p.m. in the Vines Center and in Friday’s convocation.

Since the 1990s Liberty has kicked off every semester with special evangelistic and discipleship based messages for the student body.

“I love all the worship and speakers for the week. It helps to get me fired up for the semester by getting me back on track,” said sophomore Megan Korson.
