Three Flames Baseball players selected in Major League Draft

Fresh off an NCAA Regional appearance, three members of Liberty University’s baseball team were selected on the second and third days of the 2019 Major League Baseball Draft.

Liberty pitcher Evan Brabrand (left) was selected by the Miami Marlins in the ninth round on Tuesday. Catcher/outfielder Jonathan Embry (center), ASUN Player of the Year and ASUN Tournament MVP, was selected by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 10th round on Tuesday. The Rays also took pitcher Andrew McInvale (right) in the 37th round on Wednesday.

The draft picks bring Liberty’s total to 71 over the 46-year history of the program; at least one player has been selected every season since 2000.

The draft selections come after a successful season for the Flames, who won the ASUN Championship in their first year in the conference. In NCAA Tournament play, Liberty (43-21) won its first game over Tennessee at the Chapel Hill (N.C.) Regional to tie a program record for wins in a season. The Flames were eliminated by the Volunteers two days later.
