Response team headed to NC in wake of Hurricane Florence

LU Send Now, Liberty University’s disaster relief initiative, will deploy a team to Jacksonville, N.C., to assist in flood cleanup in the aftermath of Hurricane Florence.

Partnering with Samaritan’s Purse, the team of 14 will help homeowners affected by the storm with mud-outs, roof tarping, chainsaw work, and debris cleanup. Liberty’s team dispatches Thursday morning for the six-day trip.

“As a native of North Carolina, I am so thankful we have the opportunity to meet North Carolina during her time of need,” LU Send Executive Director David Welch said. “Our hearts are broken for those who have lost loved ones and property, and we are honored to partner with Samaritan’s Purse and be used to bless those affected by Hurricane Florence.”

“We are filled with compassion for our neighboring states, the Carolinas, and didn’t think twice about deploying a team to help provide relief,” added Holly Griswold, associate director of LU Send Now. “Please pray for the displaced families who now have no home to return to or have lost loved ones.”

LU Send Now recently mobilized a team to bring hope to California wildfire victims. Teams have provided relief work for a number of deadly hurricanes in the past year, including in Puerto Rico, Texas, and the Caribbean. This summer Liberty also provided shelter and supplies locally to flood victims.
