Dr. Kenyon Knapp to head School of Behavioral Sciences

Liberty University has named Dr. Kenyon Knapp as dean of the School of Behavioral Sciences. The school is one of the largest of Liberty’s 17 schools and colleges and offers graduate and undergraduate programs in counseling, psychology, and social work.

Knapp received his Ph.D. in Counselor Education from the University of Mississippi. He comes to Liberty after having served on the faculty of Mercer University for the past 9 years. Knapp has been actively involved in teaching as well as providing leadership to the counseling profession through his membership on the board of directors of CACREP, the national accrediting body for counselor education programs.

He has maintained a part-time private practice for over 20 years. He has served on the Georgia Statewide Task Force on Human Trafficking, led counselor training initiatives on crisis counseling in Haiti, Uganda, and Israel, and participated in mission outreaches to places like Colombia and Puerto Rico.

“I am grateful for the opportunity to join and help lead a group of stellar faculty in the School of Behavioral Sciences, and I also deeply resonate with the mission of Liberty to Train Champions for Christ,” Knapp said.

Dr. Steve Warren, current interim dean, said, “There is no better person to lead the School of Behavioral Sciences here at Liberty University. His extensive knowledge of accreditation and his vision for being a part of Liberty’s mission make him a great fit for leading the school into the future.”

Knapp will begin this new role on July 1.
