Want Liberty? There’s an app for that

Liberty University has taken a giant step forward in the world of technology with the recent unveiling of myLibertyU, an application from Mobile Blackboard Learn.

Liberty’s Information Technology department describes myLibertyU as “a one-stop app shop that offers Liberty University services in the palm of your hand.”

Chief Information Officer Matt Zealand said Liberty has been looking at a mobile application for a couple of years, but “we couldn’t find the right partner or platform to build out a competitive offering until Blackboard released its product.”

The application features items such as Liberty news, scores and schedules of athletic events, a campus map and easy access to key phone numbers. Students can access their courses, as well as course catalogues.

Top highlights of the mapping feature include the ability to pinpoint a user’s exact location on campus and locate individual buildings.

Mobile Project Manager Candace Lumpkin said the mapping feature is currently being updated and will allow users to take a self-guided campus tour as well as view transit schedules.

myLibertyU is the first of what Zealand said will be several Liberty-related applications.

“The mobile application is about making the Liberty University experience unique,” he said. “We are wanting to hear back from students on what would enhance their student experience from student life, spiritual life, to the learning experience. This is just the beginning … there are very exciting things to come.”
