President Falwell talks shooting range and politics on Fox & Friends

Liberty University President Jerry Falwell joined the Fox & Friends program this morning to talk about the new shooting range coming to campus.

“It’s the perfect spot for a shooting range,” Falwell said of the 500 acres in Campbell County that Liberty was recently approved to develop for a shooting facility. “My father grew up on that same tract of land. His twin brother, who is 83 now, still lives in the same house where they were born.”

Set to open by Labor Day, the new range will be the first shooting facility on a U.S. college campus to meet all NCAA and NRA specifications for all Olympic Shooting Sports. The new facility will lead to the debut of several men’s and women’s shooting teams. The shooting program will feature three main areas: shotgun sports — skeet, trap, bunker, sporting clays, and five stand; rifle, with 100- 200- and 300-yard ranges; and a 3-gun competition and tactical training range.  There will also be a pistol range and an awards pavilion. The range will be open to the public during designated hours and local law enforcement will use the facility for training.

Falwell also spoke about President-Elect Donald Trump’s transition to office. Falwell was an early supporter of Trump, and was even offered the role of Secretary of Education by the President-elect himself. Falwell declined the offer, but wants to play a role in the new administration and expressed his enthusiasm for a Trump presidency.

“The way we made Liberty University successful is by developing a business model that no other college has done and our vision was to make it, for evangelicals, a world class university. … I see that same attribute with Donald Trump. Bringing that same business approach to the government is what is so sorely needed.”

Falwell also appeared on Fox News Sunday on Christmas Day. In that interview, he spoke of the new hope, optimism, and sense of spirit he says Trump’s election has brought about in America.
