Professor teams with Jim Cymbala on nationwide pastor initiative

Professor Daniel Henderson, left, and well-known pastor and author Jim Cymbala are hosting special events for pastors this year.

Liberty University professor Daniel Henderson has recently teamed with Jim Cymbala, senior pastor of the 10,000-member Brooklyn Tabernacle, to begin a national initiative focused on ministering to church leaders.

Cymbala and Henderson will be visiting key U.S. cities in 2010 for several one-day reFresh! events, consisting of teachings, prayer and presentations of fresh ideas for ministry.

“This is a day of giving back to spiritual leaders who sacrifice so much for the sake of the people they serve,” said Henderson. “We hope every participant walks away from the day with fresh hope and practical tools.”

Henderson, Assistant Professor of Renewal and Church Leadership, has taken his students to Brooklyn Tabernacle in the past and led training seminars at the church. He is also pastor of prayer at Thomas Road Baptist Church and the president and founder of Strategic Renewal, a non-profit ministry specializing in coaching pastors and congregations in prayer-based revitalization.

Cymbala, a well-known author, has led the Brooklyn Tabernacle for almost 40 years and has visited Liberty several times as a guest speaker at convocation.

“Pastors need so much encouragement these days,” Cymbala said. “Together we are going to experience His grace from the word and presence of Christ.”

The next reFresh! event will be on Aug. 26 in Salt Lake City. Additional events will take place in Little Rock, Houston and Atlanta.
