Prayer chapel renovations complete

The prayer chapel is one of Liberty University’s most iconic landmarks. Built in 1981, it has been a favorite spot for students to escape the bustle of campus life. It has also marked the spot where many marriages have begun, including that of President Jerry Falwell and his wife, Becki.

Recent repairs and renovations have been made to the building to better accommodate students as well as future brides and grooms. Special care was taken to preserve its history and retain its quaint, intimate setting.

The front of the building was extended, allowing for bathrooms in the foyer. The stage was rebuilt and new lighting and audio systems were added. The ceiling was opened up to the rafters and enhanced with beautiful beams and an ornate chandelier. Carpet was replaced with hardwood floors and pews were repaired, painted, and recovered with new cushions. The old windows were replaced with stained-glass windows, which were custom made locally.

On the outside, new siding was installed as well as a tin roof. The stairs were bricked, extending into a walkway that matches those at the Hancock Welcome Center nearby. The area around the building received new landscaping.
