Liberty recognized among most military friendly schools

Liberty University celebrates Military Emphasis Week 2014 on its campus.Liberty University prides itself on being a military friendly school, and its efforts have once again been recognized in the Best for Vets listing by Military Times Edge. For the second year in a row, Liberty was ranked No. 6 among online and nontraditional colleges.

“Liberty University has a long history of supporting student veterans in their educational pursuits and beyond,” said Emily Foutz, director of Liberty’s Office of Military Affairs. “It is a true privilege to serve those who sacrifice so much to protect our freedoms. Every effort is made to make the military student’s educational experience a smooth and enjoyable process, and to provide resources to meet their unique needs.”

Military Times calls its Best for Vets listing “the most comprehensive school-by-school assessment of veteran and military students’ success rates.” The independent study evaluates many factors, including services, accommodations, and financial incentives offered to military and veteran students, as well as the veteran culture on campus.

Liberty’s military population represents all five branches of the U.S. armed forces, active duty, reserves, and National Guard. Nearly 25,000 current Liberty students are service members, and veterans or military spouses. More than 7,000 of these military students are currently on active duty or serving in the reserves or National Guard.

Liberty aims to meet the specific educational needs of service members and veterans, whether they are studying on campus or online. Through Liberty’s dedicated Office of Military Affairs, service members and veterans have access to tuition discounts, fee waivers, book vouchers, as well as family resources and student care. As part of its military financial support, Liberty also offers the Heroes Fund Scholarship for veterans wounded in the Gulf Wars and for spouses of those who lost their lives during those conflicts.
