Chancellor, wife treat students during finals

In light of a bittersweet goodbye for Christmas break, Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. and his wife, Becki, treated all LU students to free kettle corn this week. The perfect combination of sweet and salty popcorn put smiles on students’ faces during the first two days of final exams.

“We know what a stressful time finals week is for students, and a few years ago Becki suggested that we treat the students to a free giveaway, and now it is a tradition,” Falwell said.

Students were allowed one bag per visit, with a total of 5,000 heaping bags of sweet and salty goodness distributed outside the Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center over two days.

“It seems to be very popular; it looked like there weren’t less than 20 people in line at all times throughout the day,” said Lee Beaumont, LU’s director of auxiliary services.

Falwell and his wife have become known for their friendly gestures during finals; an ice cream truck appeared on campus at the end of the spring semester.

“Sometimes it is the little things that mean a lot to students,” Chancellor Falwell said.
