Banquet celebrates employee milestones

More than 350 Liberty University employees were recognized for their dedication and service to the school during the annual Years of Service Banquet on Tuesday, July 29, in the Williams Stadium Club Pavilion.

The banquet, part of the university’s You Matter initiative, honors individuals for milestones they reach in their employment at Liberty, starting with five years and continuing in subsequent five-year increments. This year, three employees celebrated their 40-year milestone.

President Jerry Falwell addressed the honorees, telling them how excited and humbled he is by Liberty’s growth in recent years. He said that this growth would not have been possible without the day-to-day efforts of faculty and staff.

“We appreciate so much everything that you have done on a daily basis to make Liberty what it is,” Falwell said. “Everything that you see happening can only happen because of your dedication, your commitment to Christ and to Liberty, and we thank you for that.”

Falwell also honored five retirees who have served the university faithfully for many years. These special guests in attendance included Dr. James Freerksen (36 years), a longtime professor at Liberty University Baptist Theological Seminary, and Dr. John George (24 years), who was recently named professor emeritus by the School of Business. President Falwell also recognized David Ehrman (35 years), who served more than three-and-a-half decades as a professor of music; Dr. Monty Kester (26 years), a professor who had tremendous influence on the Department of Mathematics; and Dr. Paul Young (16 years), longtime member of the School of Business faculty.
