Research Instruction

Training and Consultations

We are available to provide department-wide training for faculty, staff, and graduate assistants on specific resources. We also provide individual consultations on:

  • Developing effective library assignments
  • Tips for teaching information literacy skills yourself
  • Tours of the library
  • Your personal research needs

Research Workshops are also available in the form of recurring seminars and online presentations.

Class Presentations

The Jerry Falwell Library provides a wide array of print and online resources; however, students don’t always take full advantage of them. Liaison librarians work directly with faculty and are available to teach information literacy skill sessions to your classes. To discuss your needs or arrange a presentation for your class, contact your department’s liaison librarian.

If you cannot reach your liaison, please contact:

Class Presentations Overview

Library faculty are available to present for intensive courses outside the normal academic year, as well as evening and Saturday courses.

  • Tailored to your specific course
  • 20-60 minutes in length
  • Cover the best resources and searching tips

We can come to your classroom or the class may come to the library for “hands-on” instruction, depending on the class size and the availability of a computer classroom.

Sample Presentations:

  • Finding a scholarly, peer-reviewed article in PsycINFO for freshman psychology students
  • Using a multi-disciplinary database such as Academic Search Premier to find information for a freshman speech in COMS 101
  • Finding biographical information and literary criticism on a particular author in Literature Resource Center for freshman English papers
  • Using Mental Measurements Yearbook to find test reviews for an Education department class in Tests and Measurements
  • Providing an overview of accessing counseling resources available to distance students for a graduate Counseling intensive course, including how to use EZProxy to obtain off-campus access
  • Using the American Theological Library Association (ATLA) Serials database and ProQuest Religion to find articles on theological topics for a Bible course
