Student Activities sponsors activities throughout the semester, including several movie nights. Liberty kicks off every fall semester with a Block Party complete with rides, free giveaways, and a concert. The 2013 Block Party is Aug. 24. Every fall, new rides and entertainment are lined up for the Block Party. Actor, author, and speaker, Kirk Cameron has recently partnered with Liberty’s cinematic arts program. He will speak at Convocation again on Sept. 23, 2013. Best-selling author and speaker Pattie Mallette will speak at Convocation on Sept. 30. Mallette is also Justin Bieber’s mother. Nationally recognized professional surfer Bethany Hamilton will speak at Liberty’s Convocation Wednesday, Oct. 16. Jon Acuff, the relatable author of “Stuff Christians Like,” spoke at Convocation on Dec. 3, 2012. He will be back again in Convocation on Oct. 30, 2013. Fans dressed in red fill the stands of Williams Stadium for home games each season. 2013 home games are Sept. 7, 14, and 28, Oct. 19 (Homecoming), Nov. 2, 9, and 16. Coach Turner Gill led the Flames Football team to their fifth Big South Conference title in 2012. School spirit is contagious at Liberty – Be Loud, Be Early, Wear Red! A refined redesign was unveiled this past spring, and can be seen around campus representing Liberty’s dedication to continued excellence. Men’s and women’s hockey will both bring excitement to the LaHaye Ice Center this year. Liberty’s wrestling team has won the past three Mid-Atlantic Conference tournaments and placed third in the past two National Collegiate Wrestling Association national championships. The Equestrian Center has eight barn stalls, multiple trails, and an outdoor riding ring. The Women's Equestrian team was recently added as a club sport. Disc golf is offered as both a club sport and intramural sport at Liberty. Our Club team participated in the national competition last year. Scaremare presents fun house rooms and scenes of death in order to confront people with the question: What happens after I die? Creepy trails, dark woods, and a fun house culminate in a scary experience that has been a tradition at Liberty for more than 40 years. Student Activities lines up many of the most recognizable names in the Christian music industry to perform at Liberty, like Tenth Avenue North, TobyMac, and Third Day.
