October 2013 Employee Newsletter

A Word from the President

As our major campus rebuilding continues with real signs of progress, I know many of you are working humbly and diligently behind the scenes. The recent You Matter gift you received was in recognition for all you do for our students at the start of a hectic academic year and how you continue to support them. We hope you enjoyed this small token of appreciation for the extra miles you go to make Liberty one of the top schools for customer service.

I also want to thank everyone who attended the premiere of Kirk Cameron’s “Unstoppable.” We are grateful for this partnership that is having an impact on so many lives. To find someone in Hollywood who is directly aligned with Liberty’s mission is exciting, and I look forward to future opportunities we will have for collaboration.

One of the greatest things about working at Liberty is that we are a family — living, loving, and learning as the body of Christ. As a family, we mourned the passing of one of our beloved religion professors last month. Dr. Paul Fink served here for 34 years. In fact, he was one of my professors. He is a prime example of how our faculty view their job as a calling. We will miss him and I ask you to continue to keep his family in your prayers. We also prayed along with our students for two current students and two alumni whose fathers were killed in the Washington Navy Yard shooting. Please continue to pray for those affected by this tragedy.

The latest issue of the Liberty Journal includes a message I delivered at Convocation earlier this semester, in which I told students about Liberty’s history. The miracle story of Liberty is reaching even further, as a recent USA Today article shows. In our prayers, let’s also continue to thank God who has blessed this university far more than any of us could have ever imagined.

It’s almost time for Scaremare 2013!

For more than 40 years, Scaremare has combined heart-pounding fun with the serious business of what happens after death.

Scaremare is a frightening 40-minute tour featuring winding trails, dark woods, and eventually, the house of death. At the end of the tour, guests are presented with the life-changing message of Jesus Christ.

Approximately 26,000 people have made a decision for Christ over the past two decades through this event. Ironically, this house of death guides many to life!

Invite your friends and family to attend. You don’t want to miss the best Scaremare yet!

Liberty Flames Sports Network Brings the Game to You

Liberty University Flames Football is invading living rooms across the nation! Since its inception in 1981, the Liberty Flames Sports Network (LFSN) has provided stellar radio and television coverage of Liberty athletics to the die-hard fans of Flames Nation, and now that coverage is even better. LFSN is excited to announce that as of the 2013 football season, the GAME OF THE WEEK will be broadcast on television by a wide array of national affiliates.  Flames Nation will now have coast-to-coast television access to the exciting gridiron matchups of Liberty Flames Football. Don’t miss one second of your Liberty Flames in action, go to www.Liberty.edu/LFSN and find out where you can watch the LFSN GAME OF THE WEEK in your area.
