Liberty Continues to Make History

This has been an extraordinary year of growth and success at Liberty University. You are an essential part of all that Liberty has accomplished and is still destined to achieve.

As the year of our 40th Anniversary comes to a close, you will be seeing our new tagline, Training Champions for Christ since 1971. The Marketing Department, Information Technology, and other departments are working together to make this a smooth transition.

So much is happening at Liberty. Our Board of Trustees met recently in the beautiful Hancock Welcome Center, an inviting gateway to Liberty’s expanding campus. The interactive display of Liberty’s courageous history sparked fond memories and prompted stories of Liberty’s impact on the lives of students and all those whose lives they touch.

The new Jerry Falwell Library continues to generate excitement. Many of you have already joined in the capital campaign for the library and have donated a commemorative brick to be installed at a main entrance of the library. I encourage you to be a part of this united effort and share in the extensive services and resources the library will provide for all of us.

Our You Matter campaign continues to highlight the exemplary work ethic and professional accomplishments of faculty and staff. More than a slogan – you truly do matter, and I am thankful for each one of you and all you do every day with such excellence.

Making his first visit to Liberty, Governor Mitt Romney will be our Commencement speaker.  True to our mission, Liberty is a Christ-centered, world-class university with a biblical world view. We stand firm on our foundation of faith while seeking to be a significant, thriving presence in the world around us. We welcome the opportunity to hear individuals of national prominence who are shaping the future of our nation.

Commencement 2012 will be successful due to the tireless, cooperative efforts of so many in every department.  Under the capable leadership of Associate Registrar for Operations Lori Baker, this Commencement is sure to be a celebration of memories shared and dreams achieved.

Customer Service Standard of the Month

This month, focus on listening 80 percent of the time, and talking for only 20 percent of it. There is great value in not only hearing what your customer is saying, but listening to what he or she needs before you respond.

This Dilbert comic is a funny example of what happens when we start doing all the talking.
