Sam Bernhardt

Sam Bernhardt has served with the LU Online team for the last five years and within the Office of Military Affairs as a workforce manager since March 2016. Sam shows a consistent eye for detail and meticulously analyzes all facets of his job to ensure he gives 100 percent each day. Sam is positive and professional, and he encourages this same mindset in those who work alongside him. Sam is very driven and motivated to do his best each day, as he sees his role as a vital part of our operation to help military students pursue and accomplish their educational goals and dreams.

Charlie Dechant

Title: Maintenance Lead Tech

Charlie moved here from Pennsylvania over eight years ago where he had his own construction business. His family moved here so his children could attend Liberty, and he has been working at the university for six years. He is a wonderful, dedicated worker, and we are blessed to have him on our team. Charlie and his wife of 36 years love spending time outdoors and have two grown children. Thank you, Charlie for all you do! Congratulations.

Jose Espinoza

Dept: Information Technology
Title: Network Engineer IV

Jose has been the lead engineer in the successful testing and implementation of the expanded VPN network increasing from 250 to 2,500 clients. He has also been instrumental in the development and testing of two-factor authentication as Liberty aims to become more secure online. Jose prides himself on communication and building success through workplace relationships. His approach to IT is refreshing and builds unity among teams for our common mission. Jose is currently leading efforts that include improving the work from home experience as well as the on-campus student bandwidth allocations. Jose is a vital member of the team and displays the ability to be flexible while working and fully vested in all his undertakings.

Mike Floyd

Title: Chair, School of Business

Every successful organization has within its fabric those individuals who provide quiet stability, excellent service, and unflappable character. Mike Floyd is one of those individuals. Mike is known for his gentle goodness and incredible work ethic. He engages business students while handling the majority of student concerns as the initial point of contact for complaints and appeals for the School of Business. Mike’s impact on key department metrics is immediately noted in an overall reduction in complaint/appeal processing times. Whenever there is work to be done, Mike is always one of the first to roll up his sleeves, ready to jump in wherever needed. We are deeply grateful to have Mike on our team.

Denise Green

Title: : Assistant Director for Success Studies

Caring, compassionate, organized, and quick to get the job done are just a few ways to describe Denise. Most important, though, is how she models her love for Christ! Denise helped transition the Academic Success Center through numerous moves and restructurings. Each was done with a positive can-do spirit! Students recognize this as well, with many of them noting the impact “Mama Green” has on their lives through her work in Mentoring and College Learning Strategy courses.

Gerald Griffin

Title: Student Health Center and Wellness Initiatives

Gerald has worked for our institution for approximately four years in various capacities and now serves as a Student Health Records Program assistant. In this position he manages the online immunization portal for the entire residential population. Gerald also single-handedly processes submitted physical documents. During his time in this position, Gerald has found ways to streamline our procedures and increase student compliance ratings. Due to his meticulous attention to detail, Gerald has become an invaluable asset, and we are grateful to have him as part of our team.

Travis Isaacs

Title: Staff Accountant

Travis Isaacs is a valued member of Liberty University’s Accounting department. His capability as a staff accountant has been demonstrated in both his normal workload and various special projects during the past year. Travis’ efforts included working collaboratively with one of the university’s schools, implementing various process improvements. Recently, his work included assisting one of Liberty’s subsidiaries. We appreciate Travis’s can-do attitude and his desire to go the extra mile. We are grateful that he is a part of our Accounting team.

Shanika Johnson

Title: Quality Assurance Analyst

Shanika is a longtime employee of Liberty University Online, but we have been blessed to have her in the Registrar’s Office for several years now serving online students in a couple different roles. Currently, she is a quality assurance analyst for Online and Graduate Studies Transfer Evaluations. Every day, she applies her experience, attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills to support and sharpen her colleagues within LUO Transfer. She has proven herself over and over again as a valuable asset to the Registrar’s Office and to the university as a whole. Congratulations, Shanika!

Brandi Llewellyn

Title: Master Control Operator

Brandi joined our team in August 2009 and is an excellent master control operator. She works hard to improve and learn every day, with a willing spirit to help the entire Master Control team succeed. Our department works 24/7, 365 days a year, and we have confidence that our TV stations will run smoothly at any given time when we have someone like Brandi on duty. Brandi, thank you so much for your diligence and hard work. We are proud to have you on our team.

Steve Manwarren

Title: CAD Designer II

Steve has been with the university since 2013. He is happily married and the father of three exceptional adults. He is currently one of our lead CAD designers with years of experience in both design and project management. Steve always has a smile and a good word for his fellow employees. He is a blessing to have in the Design & Drafting Department of the Facilities Management Division.

Betty Pittman

Dept: Academics
Title: Records Room Clerk

Liberty Law’s faculty, staff, and students thoroughly enjoy their encounters with Betty. She greets them cheerfully each weekday morning with a helpful attitude and invests in each student that she assists. During final examinations (worth 100 percent of a law student’s grade), she helps those needing special accommodations: pillows for their backs, tissues for their nosebleeds, earplugs, seating close to the exit for bathroom breaks, those who need a quiet room, etc. They all stop by to thank her for her kindness during stressful times. In addition, Betty is eager to learn new skills and build on each one, reinforcing her already invaluable role. Thank you for everything that you do, Betty!

John Radke

Title: Grounds Lead Tech.

John is a supervisor for Special Projects in Grounds. In this position, he does excavation, concrete work, and site layout. He is very analytical, an attribute that shines through in his work. John is someone that you can count on to get the job done with time is limited. He has been married to Erica for six years, and enjoys fishing and rebuilding boats. Congratulations, John. We are grateful to have you on our team!

Greg Smith

Dept: Academics
Title: Director, Management Information Services

Greg Smith has served the university since 2003 in a variety of leadership roles, and for the past five years, he has led the Jerry Falwell Library’s assessment and finance initiatives as director of Management Information Services. While already holding a terminal degree in library science, Greg recently completed his M.B.A, graduating with distinction. Greg’s diligence is evidenced in his service to his church, family, and the profession of librarianship. Greg actively presents and publishes in the field, and his broad scope of knowledge spans many disciplines, including organizational planning and assessment. The library is honored that Greg chooses to serve his Lord and Savior at Liberty University.

Juan Jose Tapia-Ancalle

Title: Business Data Analyst II

Juan Jose serves on the ADS LUO team and is invaluable to the completion of highly technical and difficult tasks. He was instrumental in getting LUO back on track while technical issues were putting a damper on their operations. He is always willing to pitch in and help out whatever the task is. Whenever difficult situations arise — and sometimes before they arise — Juan Jose is working on and executing a solution that saves the team and the university both time and money.
