Liberty University’s convocation on Wednesday left many students feeling patriotic and ready to vote in November’s mid-term elections. The message had a political focus as former Virginia governor George Allen and former U.S. congressman Bob McEwen addressed students. Allen and McEwen discussed the value of maintaining a free market and personal liberties in America.

A photo of Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre is prominently featured on National Geographic’s website in the America’s Best Adventure Towns section. The photo was taken by Becki Falwell, Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr.’s wife, in 2009 and showcases student Luke Fosse doing a backflip on a snowboard at the year-round ski slope that opened in August 2009.

Olympic figure skating silver medalist Paul Wylie taught a skating seminar Saturday, Sept. 25 at Liberty University’s LaHaye Ice Center. Dorothy Helms, wife of the late U.S. Sen. Jesse Helms, visited Liberty University’s Helms School of Government on Friday, Sept. 24. During her visit, Chancellor Jerry Falwell, Jr. announced that a free-standing building was being planned for the school, as well as a citizenship course that will give students a stronger foundation on U.S. history, government and the Constitution.

This hockey season, the Liberty University Flames have edged their competition before even stepping onto the ice. With the recent addition of a women’s Division II hockey team, Liberty has become the first and only university in the American Collegiate Hockey Association to have one team in each of the league’s five divisions.

The Liberty Flames went on the road this past Saturday and pulled off a huge upset of a Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team. The Flames used a late touchdown by Mike Brown and numerous key defensive stands to upend Ball State of the Mid-American Conference, 27-23, in Muncie, Ind.
