Liberty University head football coach Danny Rocco fired up students at Friday’s convocation. Rocco shared his wishes for a sell-out crowd to come and support the LU Flames at their home opener against North Greenville at 7 p.m. on Saturday.

The National Intelligence Symposium for Law Enforcement (NISLE) was held at Liberty University Tuesday and Wednesday, with representatives of local, state and federal agencies as well as academia from other universities in attendance.

The new Towns Lecture Hall at the B.R. Lakin School of Religion was filled beyond capacity Monday night as 925 students showed up to learn about the 14 short-term missions campaigns being offered this year by Liberty University’s Center for Global Ministries.

Liberty University’s English Language Institute (ELI) has a new home at the Lynchburg Inn and Conference Center. The move to the nearby hotel is advantageous for the program since 90 international students are being housed there this fall.

DecembeRadio delivered a powerful two-song Christian rock set at Liberty University’s convocation service on Monday. The band’s first self-titled album with Slanted Records was nominated for “Best Rock or Rap Gospel Album” at the 49th Grammy Awards and also won a 2007 Dove Award for “Rock Album of the Year.”

Liberty University’s national recruiters have been on the road since the second week of June for Summerfest 2008, a series of Christian youth music festivals sponsored by Liberty. This week they were back on campus to present Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. and his wife, Becki, a photo book of their travels and to update them on the progress.

Crews are currently clearing an area of land located behind Campus North in preparation of Liberty’s upcoming tennis center. Once the bulk grading is completed, construction will begin on a new 12-court complex, accommodating the university’s NCAA Division I men’s and women’s tennis teams.

Liberty University Chancellor Jerry Falwell Jr. was watching the local news on TV Tuesday night when he learned that the Barack Obama campaign had announced there would be parking available at The Plaza shopping center for Wednesday’s town hall meeting at nearby E.C. Glass High School.

The largest-ever incoming class at Liberty University (now surpassing 3,700) meant standing room only for the first convocation service of the fall 2008 semester Wednesday morning. Campus pastor Johnnie Moore announced that, for the first time, they had outgrown the Vines Center, where three convocation services are held each week.
