Photography at LU

February 16, 2009 : Jake Ford

Here at Liberty University there is so much going on all the time. In order to capture all the goes on we have a troupe of photographers out and about snapping shots of life here at LU.

Jordan Crossingham and Joel Coleman are two of the many photographers here at Liberty. They work in the Office of University Advancement along with many other creative minds.

Jordan has been a photographer here at LU for about a year and a half. She is a graduate of Randolph Community College with a major in Photo Journalism. As a young photographer, Jordan can relate to the students here at LU instead of just being some person with a camera all up in their faces. In the short time that Jordan has been working here at Liberty, she's had some amazing opportunities. Her fourth day here she was flown out to Michigan to photograph a professional dog sledder. She has had the opportunity to photograph two presidential candidates, a Fox News anchor and an astronaut. "I feel like I've been able to accomplish a lot at 24 years old thanks to LU," said Crossingham. Outside of LU, Jordan enjoys photographing children. When asked what her favorite picture of her own was, Jordan went on to describe a photo she took this past summer at a local camp. "It's of a little girl coming out of the water, her face and hair drenched. It's just lovely. Her expression is pure bliss... not a care in the world. We should all be so lucky to feel that."

Joel Coleman has been a photographer here at LU since fall of 2008. He is a Sophomore here at LU and is involved with the Visual Communication Arts program. As a photographer for LU, Joel enjoys photographing the concerts (which he gets into for free), the sports (which he gets the best seat), and he gets to do what he loves. Joel specifically enjoys the sports here at LU because of the fast paced action and the energetic atmosphere. Outside of LU, Joel likes to photograph things he'd like to get hired to do later on in his career. He also enjoys doing portraits "because people are a lot more interactive than trees." Joel's favorite picture of his own is from last years CPAC conference. He was able to be in the press-pit, directly in front of the stage and was able to photograph all the Republican Presidential candidates, Vice President Cheney and President Bush. His favorite shots were of President Bush because he was so warm and relaxed as he spoke. "It was incredible to be only 7 feet away from one of the leaders of our country," said Coleman. When photographing the President, Joel was advised to change his vocabulary from "shoot" to "photograph" because the Secret Service tends to frown on things like that.

As you may already know, life here at LU is always alive and thriving and thanks to Jordan and Joel we are able to look back and remember some of the great time at Liberty University.
