Being a college town, Lynchburg is packed full of musicians and bands. A few of Lynchburg’s better known bands include Six Chasing Seven, Bosc, and The Rory Tyer Band. When asked about music in Lynchburg, Rory Tyer responded by saying, “There's nothing glamorous about the Lynchburg music scene, and that's perfectly fine with me; music is about music, not glamour, and I like to think that, when we play, we've done well if we've made people smile. We make music to give people a chance to participate in the joy that comes from being creative - a joy ultimately founded in the fact that we are made in the image of the supreme Creator, in whose shadow all of our creativity happens and finds significance.”
There are plenty of coffee shops and restaurants that showcase Lynchburg’s local music. The Drowsy Poet and The White Hart are two great coffee shops here in Lynchburg that regularly host shows. The Rory Tyer Band is a frequent guest at The White Hart. The Drowsy Poet is within walking distance of Liberty’s campus and is great place to go after the movies or just to get off campus. The White Hart is in downtown Lynchburg and is also a bookstore. If you really want a cool place to just sit back and relax and maybe just read a good book and listen to some great music, The White Hart is the place to go.
Roanoke, Richmond and D.C. are major cities that are all within a few hours of Lynchburg. If you’re up for seeing some of your favorite mainstream artist’s in concert, all three of these cities make for a great day trip.
