Time management is something every college student struggles with. We all reach those points in the semester when it seems like everything is due at the same time and you have 3 tests in one week (of course they are your 3 hardest classes) and you’ve got two intramural games the night before a test and you’ve got a meeting for your missions trip coming up and you forgot about the paper that was due next period and so on and so forth ...
Sometimes it’s hard to handle everything you’ve got going on, but here are a few easy ways to manage your time wisely and get things done.
- Get Your Priorities Straight: It’s so easy to get sucked into clicking around Facebook for an hour or two, but there’s almost always something more important you could be doing. If your friends all go out to see a movie one night and you really want to go but you’ve got a test the next day, think about what’s more important and make the right choice. Sometimes it stinks to have to sit in and study but in the long run when you get an A on the test, it’s worth it.
- Make a To Do List: Sit down at your desk and start writing down all of the things you have to do. For those of you who don’t know, this is called a To Do List. When you’ve finished your list, figure out the importance of each item on your list. (i.e. Writing that paper for your English might be more important that doing your laundry which is definitely more important than uploading those pictures from Saturday’s football game to Facebook.) After you’ve organized your list by order of importance, get started! If you put the list aside then what was the purpose of making it?! One of the best parts of To Do List’s is crossing items off when you finish them.
- Don’t Procrastinate!: Procrastination is unfortunately something that almost every college student is very skilled at and it’s one of the worst habits to get in to. Someone once said, “Don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today.” If you have time to write that one-pager today, why not get it over with instead of pushing it off to another day?
If you follow these easy tips you’ll definitely be able to manage your time much better. Just remember to get your priorities straight, make a To Do list and don’t procrastinate!
