Eating At Liberty

November 1, 2009 : Phylicia Duran

With Thanksgiving drawing near, there is a common thought on the minds of Liberty college students: mother’s home cooking! Eating is fairly high on the priority list of students, whether at home or on campus. Fortunately, Liberty has provided more than enough avenues for good eats between classes.

Reber Thomas Dining Hall is the main dining hall on campus, located near the DeMoss Hall and the Hill residence halls. Colorful and busy, the dining hall provides students with a variety of buffets to suit their tastes, such as Main Meal, Balance, Wok, Grill, Southwestern, a salad and soup bar, sandwiches and pizza. There are ice cream machines that beckon from the corner by the cereal, as well as a dessert table conveniently located at the entrance and exit (in case one likes dessert before and after a meal!). Rebar Thomas is where most residential students use their meal plan, and is often the meeting place for dorm dinners, accountability meetings and Bible studies.

Founder’s Food Court is located on North Campus behind the Tolsma Indoor Track. Founder’s offers a Sub-Connection, Chick-Fil-A, sandwich bar, and a la carte desserts and coffee. Meal points apply here, with the exception of meal-plan endorsed menus at the grill bar. The aviation-themed Hangar Food Court is similar to Founder’s and is located in the DeMoss courtyard by the aviation and teacher’s education buildings.

There are several cafes on campus as well; Jazzman’s, on the second floor of DeMoss, the Tilley Café in the LaHaye Student Union and a Starbucks located in the Liberty Bookstore. Each of these features delicious coffee and tea drinks as well as great reading, studying or socializing environments.

The Keyhole and Café a la Carte offer quick meals for students on the run. The Keyhole is on the Circle, and offers anything a student needs for a dorm room as well as coffee, desserts, sandwiches , wraps and ice cream pints. Café a la Carte on the first floor of DeMoss offers various drinks and snacks as well.

Although students may be spoiled by mother’s cooking over Thanksgiving, upon return to Liberty, they are guaranteed plenty of opportunities to never go hungry. Happy Thanksgiving!
