Second baseman Bryan Aanderud and catcher Trey Wimmer were named to Big South All-Conference teams, Monday evening.

Liberty catcher Trey Wimmer and second baseman Bryan Aanderud were selected to the 2013 Big South All-Conference team, this evening. In addition, pitcher Trey Lambert was named to the All-Academic team. The honors were announced at a ceremony at Liberty University, the site of the 2013 Big South Baseball Championship.

Wimmer was named to the all-conference first team, while Aanderud was selected to the second team.
Wimmer, a senior, earned selection to the Johnny Bench Award Watch list this season. The award honors annually the nation's top collegiate catcher based on athletic ability, sportsmanship, team leadership and character.

The Greenwood, S.C., native enters this week's Big South Baseball Championship at Liberty Baseball Stadium, hitting a career-high .301 with 36 runs scored and 34 RBIs. He leads the Flames with 16 doubles and also has three triples and three home runs. Defensively, the two-time Liberty team captain has thrown out 49 percent of would-be base stealers. He is among Big South leaders in RBIs, runs scored, doubles, total bases and two-out RBIs

Earlier this season, Wimmer was tabbed the Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 18-24. It is the first time the catcher has received an all-conference nod.

Aanderud, also a senior, was selected to the second team. The second baseman leads the Flames in batting average, hits and on base percentage.  The Fullerton, Calif., native enters the week, hitting .321 with a .401 on base percentage.  He has collected 69 hits, scored 27 runs and driven in 34.

Earlier this season, Aanderud posted a career-high consecutive game hit streak of 16 games, the longest by a Flame this season. He has posted 21 multiple-hit games, including six three-hit contests.

It is the second-straight year, Aanderud has been named to the all-conference team.  The second baseman earned all-conference second team in 2012.

Right-hander Trey Lambert was named to the 2013 Big South Baseball All-Academic team. The junior enters the week with a 6-3 record and a 3.93 ERA in 13 starts this season.  The Tazewell, Va., native has pitched a team-leading three complete games.

A health promotions: clinical studies major, Lambert was a member of the 2011-12 Big South Presidential Honor Roll.

The Liberty Baseball Stadium will host the 2013 Big South Baseball Championship, Tuesday through Saturday.  Liberty, the No. 5 seed for the tournament, will face the No. 4 seeded Radford Highlanders in the fourth and final game of the day, Tuesday.  The contest is slated to start 45 minutes after the conclusion of game 3.
