Christina Mitchell's school-record 151-4 javelin throw earned Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors.

After breaking her own school record in the javelin, Liberty redshirt senior Christina Mitchell has been named Big South Conference Choice Hotels Women's Field Athlete of the Week.

Mitchell's first Big South weekly award of the year is the fifth of her career. It is the second straight week that a Liberty thrower has been tabbed Big South Women's Field Athlete of the Week, following Mychelle Cumings' recognition on March 13.

Mitchell threw the javelin 151-4 on Saturday at the Shamrock Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C. She won the event and improved upon her previous program record of 146-1, which had been set May 6, 2012 at Winthrop.

Mitchell, who has won each of her first two javelin competitions of the 2013 season, currently ranks No. 11 nationally in the event.

Liberty will compete in the Virginia Cup on Saturday at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Va. The team-scored meet against James Madison, Radford, VCU and host Virginia will begin at 9 a.m. with the women's hammer. Running events will get started at 1:30 p.m., with prelims of the women's 100-meter hurdles.
