March 04, 2009

Standing before a packed-house crowd of movie stars and Hollywood insiders, Liberty University School of Law Dean Mathew Staver delivered the benediction for the 17th Annual MOVIEGUIDE® Faith & Values Awards Gala and Report to the Entertainment Industry. This year’s gala was held in the Grand Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills.

MOVIEGUIDE®, a publication and organization dedicated to redeeming the values of the entertainment industry, hosts the gala to reward the best moral, family-friendly, and Christ-centered movies and TV shows of the previous year.

“Fireproof” won the Epiphany Prize for Inspiring Movies, a prize awarded to the best movie resulting in a “great increase in man’s love or understanding of God.” The independent, pro-marriage film, which features Dean Staver and his wife, Anita, as extras, was presented at Liberty University School of Law in a special screening before its release.

The Faith and Freedom Award for Promoting Positive American Values went to “Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed,” a documentary film also pre-screened at the School of Law.

Winning the title of Best Family Movie of 2008 was “WALL-E,” with “Iron Man” being named Best Movie for Mature Audiences of 2008.

Liberty University School of Law launched an externship program with MOVIEGUIDE® last year, boasting its first extern in the summer of 2008.
