What is the ILRC?

Liberty University’s Integrated Learning Resource Center – known as the ILRC – combines in a single organization the resources of three units that are vital to the academic success of faculty and students: the A. Pierre Guillermin Library, the Computer Labs, and the Media Services Department. The ILRC facility is a relaxed study and work environment that integrates student library services, computer labs and classrooms, group and quiet study areas, and a coffee bar.

The library provides a wide range of materials and services, employs a group of well-qualified personnel consisting of professional librarians and trained support staff, and maintains membership in local, state, regional, and national library cooperative ventures. The library collection has holdings of approximately 250,000 paper volumes, more than 150,000 e-books, over 97,000 unique electronic and print periodical titles, and 200+ electronic databases containing many full text documents. Access to the electronic materials is available worldwide to Liberty students and faculty via the Internet. Materials from libraries across the United States can also be obtained through interlibrary loan services.

Liberty University Online students have direct toll-free telephone and email access to library personnel. Online Student Library Services include computer research, document delivery, and book delivery.

The Curriculum Library provides Education students with a variety of materials geared toward children and young adults, as well as materials for lesson preparation. In addition, the Curriculum Library offers access to a variety of other materials such as compact discs, DVDs, and music scores, and provides listening and viewing stations.

Attendance at an orientation session covering basic research skills and introducing library services is required of all freshmen. Additional training in the use of library resources is available for students and faculty upon request via liaison librarians.

The ILRC Computer Labs Department maintains over 470 computers in 16 classroom labs, over 350 computers in various open computing spaces, and over 250 computers in specialized computing spaces across campus. All of the machines in the ILRC are connected to the Internet via a high-speed connection. Each machine is pre-loaded with a variety of software titles available for student use, including Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Mathematica, and SPSS. The ILRC also has computer labs that are equipped with specialized software, including Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Studio, Adobe Audition, Cinema 4D, Finale, and Sibelius.

The Media Services Department provides access to classroom audio and video technology for the entire campus. They also provide the training and support to deliver academic content with this technology.
