netLibrary e-Audiobooks now available

Over the last few months the library slowly began to add Audiobooks to our NetLibrary collection. Our NetLibrary eAudiobook Collection offers a large selection of eAudiobooks on a wide range of topics, including language studies and some by many of our favorite Christian authors.

You will need a setup a personal account at NetLibrary to download any of these and perhaps utilize the NetLibrary Media Center (much like Audible audiobooks) to manage your downloads. It is possible to listen to these on your Windows-based computer, many mp3 players, or some on your iPod (iPods will only play the mp3 titles). You may also need to update your Windows Media Player to work with the licensing involved in accessing these titles through the university. You will need to follow these instructions if you get any error messages about license acquisition. If you need any further assistance please feel free to contact Tim Siegel, our Web Application Specialist, at tjsiegel@liberty.edu.

Updated Library DVD Circulation Policy

DVD Circulation Policy

Over the last several years the collection of DVDs owned and circulated by the ILRC has grown to over 1500 items. These include DVDs that are used by faculty for instructional purposes, as well as many popular titles that are used for recreation. As you can imagine, the usage of these materials has also grown considerably. For example, during last fall semester the DVDs in our collection circulated more than 2500 times.

In order to better meet the rise in demand for these materials the ILRC is implementing a new circulation policy for DVDs, beginning with the Spring 2009 semester. Effective Monday, January 26, the following policies will be in effect:

·         The DVD loan period for all borrowers (faculty, staff, or students) is 7 days, with one renewal.

·         The maximum number of DVDs that any individual may have out at any one time is 3.

·         DVDs that are more than 10 days overdue will be given a status of “lost,” and students will be held responsible for the standard lost item fees.

This new form can be submitted electronically with an online confirmation indicating that the form will be processed within 24 hours. The form is available on here.

In addition, we have provided information regarding the use of copyrighted materials for course reserves guidelines.

Off-campus access to online resources

Please login to EZproxy first when attempting to access any online library subscription resources (articles, Bb links to articles, e-books, journals, and databases) from off-campus. That will provide the strongest authentication possible and pass you to the resources you are trying to access.

In the event that you click a link (before you are logged into EZproxy) that takes you to the EZproxy login, and after logging in,the link does not take you where you expected to go....please try to click the original link the second time. We are aware that in some instances you will not be taken to the EZproxy login but also not to the resource. Clicking the original link should also work in that instance.

If you have tried that and read through the help guidelines on the EZproxy and still need help, please contact the ILRC thru librarysupport@liberty.edu

New Online Resources

The library has made some recent upgrades to our electronic collections which enhance our holdings.   We’ve expanded our Annual Reviews collections by adding the earlier volumes for which he had no previous electronic access, allowing greater access to collections over a larger historical time period.  For our government and history students we’ve added three online collections from the Congressional Quarterly Press: CQ Almanac, CQ Historic Documents, and CQ Supreme Court Yearbook.  Additional history research can be done with new electronic access to a database titled: “Current Biography Illustrated” from H.W. Wilson.  Finally, we’ve upgraded our Proquest Safari Technical book holdings to their complete collection of over 6000 books.  This enhances our resource offerings for people in computer sciences and in a limited way, engineering.  We are currently in the process of adding these collections to our library webpages and making them accessible from off campus.   We think that these tools are great additions to our growing electronic holdings and that they will enhance your scholarship.

Added and expanded EBSCO databases have a new search interface

As of July 1, 2008, as part of our arrangement with VIVA (the Virtual Library of Virginia) we have added numerous EbscoHost databases. Many students who used Academic Search Premier in the past will appreciate the expanded Academic Search Complete database now available. In addition to some brand new databases, other databases have expanded their coverage from the Premier to the Complete version which increases the number of full-text articles available.

Effective July 16, 2008, EBSCO has also introduced their new and improved 2.0 interface. The new interface has a new look, but all of the old features are still available in addition to some improvements. See http://www.ebscohost.com/2.0 for more details and tutorials about this new interface.

Construction continues on DeMoss expansion

Third floor construction on the Arthur S. DeMoss Learning Center is coming along smoothly.

Started in April, the project calls for more than 45,000 square feet of expanded computer lab and study space. There will be several offices and classrooms for the School of Engineering, a “quiet study zone,” a conference and seminar room, computer workstations, wireless connections, restrooms and an elevator.

The new facilities should be ready when classes start next month, said Charles Spence, the school's director of planning and new construction.

The DeMoss Learning Center was originally erected in 1985 in honor of the late Arthur S. DeMoss - a generous benefactor and Liberty University board member.

The building was remodeled and expanded in 2000 and now spans 500,000 square feet over four floors. The DeMoss building is the primary academic building on campus, and most general education classes are held there.
