Resources

The library collection consists of both physical and electronic resources. Physical collections consist of approximately 368,000 items and 638 current periodical subscriptions. Electronic collections consist of more than 250,000 electronic items and content from more than 69,000 unique full-text journals. For the latest resource numbers, see the statistical snapshot.

Materials from libraries across the United States can also be obtained through the InterLibrary Loan service. Additionally, the library is a member of the Center for Research Libraries, providing access to all of the vast resources in this international consortium of university, college, and independent research libraries.

Automated Storage and Retrieval System

The Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) can store and retrieve up to 420,000 items, utilizing three robotic cranes. Items from the JFL Catalog can be requested and picked up at the library’s Customer Service Center within minutes.

Although the bulk of the collection will only be accessible through the robotic system, students will still have direct access to approximately 65,000 of the newest and most frequently used items in the library’s main collection.

The ASRS will allow for expansion of the library collections since it takes up a seventh of the space of traditional shelving. This will also allow for more room for study and meeting spaces, classrooms, and other areas.

Technologies

In addition to the ASRS, the library includes a number of other innovative technologies.
