The Circulation Department facilitates physical access to library materials through the Customer Service Center and reserve area and is the place to pick up materials customers request from other libraries through Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad). The Customer Service Center handles local circulation of all general library materials. DVDs and audio books are circulated by the Curriculum Library staff at the Curriculum Library Service desk.
Currently registered Liberty University students, faculty, and staff may borrow materials. Community members may borrow materials with the payment of a $10 annual fee. Alumni may request a complimentary Community Card. The number of items, circulation period, renewal limits, and fines vary by customer type. Click on the link below that corresponds to your customer type to determine how many items you can check out, how long you can keep them, and what fines you might incur for overdue or lost items. Periodicals and reference materials are for library use only and do not circulate except to faculty and staff by special arrangements. Faculty may put any type of materials on reserve for either 3 hours or 3 days.

Circulation staff assists customers with on-site or electronic requests for renewals, recalls, or item retrieval from any collection. One of the quickest ways to renew is by accessing your library account through the library webpage or by calling the Customer Service Center at 434-582-2506. Renewals are not allowed for items on which other customers have placed a hold.
Customers are responsible for returning borrowed items. Items borrowed from the ILRC collection can be returned to the Customer Service Center, the book drop outside of the first floor entrance to the ILRC, or the book drop at Green Hall located in the stairwell to the left of the main entrance. Customers are responsible for returning materials in satisfactory condition. Failure to do so may result in replacement charges.
Customers who receive overdue notices for items already returned should report this to the Customer Service Center at once. This will prompt a search process within the library and a report back to the customer.
Any customers with 1 lost items or 5 overdue items will be blocked from borrowing library materials.
All customers with lost items will be charged the replacement cost of the item plus a $10 processing fee. If no price can be found or the item is no longer available for purchase, the customer will be charged a fee of $45 plus a $10 processing fee. Customers may present the library with a replacement copy in acceptable condition as an alternative to the item charge. Once an item has been declared lost, customers will have a two-week grace period before being billed for the item with the exception of Reserve items which will be billed immediately with no grace period. Customers may return or replace the item within this grace period and only be charged the $10 processing fee. After the two-week grace period, no credits or refunds will be given and replacements will no longer be accepted. In all cases, the $10 processing fee will not be refunded.
Billing for overdue fines, damaged materials, and lost items are posted to students’ accounts. Faculty and staff may pay charges at the Customer Service Center. Community customers may pay at the Customer Service Center. Customers paying charges at the Customer Service Center need to pay by cash or check. Failure to pay these charges will result in the loss of borrowing privileges.
