CSER 552-001: THE GATEWAY VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (For men)
Supervisor: David Prewitt (846-3311 ext. 1 or Email)
The Gateway is a program of Lynchburg Community Action Group, Inc.,  a local non-profit organization providing housing, emergency assistance and education to low-income, disadvantaged and elderly individuals in Central Virginia. The Gateway is a residential substance abuse recovery program for homeless men who are in recovery from drug and/or alcohol addiction. Residents are housed for up to two years and receive on-site substance abuse counseling, employment assistance and other supportive services as they learn to make better choices and rebuild their lives. All residents work or volunteer and pay rent, attend a minimum of five 12-step meetings weekly, are breathalyzed nightly and randomly drug screened for accountability. This is excellent training for Ministry, Psychology, Counseling, and Human Services majors. There are many different volunteer opportunities available including working directly with residents. Please contact David Prewitt, Program Manager, at (434)846-3311, Ext. 1, or email me at program@gatewayprogram.com if interested.
