CSER 532-001: BRIDGING THE GAP URBAN MINISTRIES
Supervisor: Jodie Walton III (434-515-2824 or
Email)

Bridging The Gap Urban Ministries is a multi-ethnic, multi-faceted, para-church organization comprised of area college students and some community residents who have made it point to commit themselves to being men and women who are striving to be healthy believers that know their purpose, set a standard, and invoke change in this post-churched nation.

Our mission is to engage the culture in such a way that anyone that comes in contact with this ministry or its members will be loved, served, and saved. We do this by creating and participating in service projects, discipleship courses, performances (step, dance, mime, and more), concerts and shows, competitions, as well fellowship amongst each other both on campus, off campus and occasionally even overseas.

All potential members must go through a three week training period prior to joining this ministry team. This process includes elements of physical, mental, and spiritual training, as well as clothing requirements. Informational meetings are held to explain this process and more prior to people joining.

"Be challenged. Be changed."

CSER 539-001: YOUNG LIFE MINISTRY
Supervisor: Allen Miller (528-5560 or
Email)

In its 75 years of outreach to teens, Young Life has become one of the largest international youth ministries in the world. We are currently at work in over 500 locations in the United States, including right here in Lynchburg, and in 110 foreign countries.

The very heart of Young Life's relational approach to sharing the gospel is our meeting teens on their own turf. We become involved in their world by consistently spending time with them wherever that may be; and as a result, we are able to communicate a sincere concern for their lives, win their friendship, model the Great Gospel message, and, when the time is right, verbally share that great message.  We earn the right to hear, then we earn the right to be heard.

Our leaders spend, with their team mates, 5 hours a week simply being in teen’s worlds.  They also spend 3 hours a week working side by side with their ministry team to plan both an outreach meeting and a Bible study, and pray for teens.  Finally we spend a couple hours each week in our large group leadership meeting which is a wonderful time of singing, sharing, praying, and learning.  YoungLife leaders have answered the call that this ministry is going to be a part of who they are while in college!

We work with high school, middle school, and college students.  We do YoungLife College right here at LU! The program here is designed to encourage students in their faith but also provide one more place where students who have questions about their faith can go.   YoungLife also provides, summer camp trips, intern opportunities throughout the world, and an annual missions trip to China where leaders teach English at a University there for a week.

CSER 567-001: THE MASTER'S INN
Supervisor: Luke Spoon (434-369-5053 or
Email)

The purpose of Master's Inn is to reach young people for Christ, and to assist those who already know Him to draw closer in their daily walk. During the school year, we host weekend retreats, banquets, ski weekends and Christian School get-a-ways. Our goals are the same for each of these events; to being young people to Christ.  Our program is such that we can offer a great deal of "hands-on" experience to ministry-minded college students who are wiling to be used.
