Celebrating the Christmas Season!

I love Christmas, and I couldn’t be at a better place to celebrate the season! Liberty’s campus is decked out with Christmas lights, and a massive Christmas tree stands in front of DeMoss Hall. Along with incredible decorations, Liberty has several incredible events during the Christmas season.

This year, I’ve enjoyed celebrating the Christmas season with Christmas in Lights, Christmas convocation, and Christmas Coffeehouse, Liberty's huge talent show.

On the Monday after Thanksgiving break, Student Activities put on Christmas in Lights. A choir sang and a brass ensemble played Christmas songs at the front steps of DeMoss while everyone enjoyed free cookies and hot chocolate. Later, the big moment arrived! Chancellor Falwell spoke for a few seconds and then let a couple students flip the switch to light up the entire campus.

The lighting ceremony was a fun event, but it was just the beginning of an eventful Christmas season at Liberty. On the day before finals begin, I got to attend one of my favorite events of the year, Christmas Convocation.

With singing, hilarious videos, and skits, Christmas Convo is almost like Saturday Night Live specifically for Liberty students. A lot of the jokes come from things that happen in convocation and around campus throughout the semester.

After singing some Christmas songs to kick off Christmas Convo, we watched several hilarious videos. A couple of my favorites were a spoof of Liberty’s news show, Around Liberty in 90 Seconds, and “Silly Songs with These Guys,” a video of our provost, Dr. Godwin, and Liberty’s co-founder, Dr. Towns, reading song lyrics.

Toward the end of the show, there was a great skit of well-known Liberty personalities competing in a game show. Most of the imitations were perfect, and the jokes were hilarious.

Christmas Convo is one of my favorite events of the year, and its timing couldn’t be better. On the day before finals begin, Christmas Convo helps me relax and focus better when I study for the rest of the day.

With decorations around campus, laughs in Christmas Convo, and incredible talent in Christmas Coffeehouse, Liberty is an incredible place to enjoy the Christmas season.
